Downingtown Rock Gym

The building housing the Downingtown Rock Gym (formerly Vertical Extreme) has a unique history. It sits on campus originally built by Pepperidge Farm as their second modern facility. As the business grew and more markets were opening up in the Mid Atlantic States, this plant was built and opened in 1949. The structure where the gym resides was used to house the flour silos which is why it is so tall in comparison to the surrounding buildings. The Downingtown Rock Gym is the first expansion gym for Dave Pastorok, owner of Doylestown Rock Gym. Located in the former Vertical Extreme facility, the Doylestown team has brought their unique style to Chester County. Downingtown Rock Gym provides 10,000 sq. feet of climbing, with walls reaching 45′ tall, some of the tallest indoor climbing walls in PA. Conveniently located, in southeastern Pennsylvania, for climbers in Chester, Lancaster, Montgomery and Delaware counties, as well as, being just a short trip from northern Delaware. Indoor rock climbing surfaces include overhangs, boulders, aretes, chimneys, caves, and lead walls, the facility is suitable for rock climbers of all ages and abilities. Beginner rock climbing lessons, advanced rock climbing lessons, outdoor rock climbing and lead climbing lessons are offered with group rates available. MISSION: The mission of the Downingtown Rock Gym is to provide quality indoor, outdoor and adventure climbing experiences where seasoned climbers as well as newcomers to the sport can practice, train, and learn to climb safely.
