Volunteer Opportunities for MLK Day

Many of our local schools and townships are hosting special community events in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. Following are a few community events where you can participate in acts of service to your community.

Ambler Borough, Litter and Cigarette Butt Clean Up
Monday, January 15, 9am – 3pm. In honor of MLK Day of Service, help pick up litter and cigarette butts in Ambler Borough. This is an independent initiative. Start anytime between with your family and friends or just by yourself. Fill a bag or two, take pictures and post it to social media tagging the Ambler EAC in your post. Use the hashtags #pickupambler #pickuppennsylvania #keeppennsylvaniabeautiful. The Ambler EAC has plenty of bags and gloves. Message them and they will drop off supplies on your front porch. All requests for supplies need to be in by Jan 14, 2024 at 5pm.

Beth Am Israel, MLK Day of Service & Learning
Monday, January 15, 2024, 10am-1pm
Join Beth Am Israel in meaningful hands-on service projects for all ages and engaging conversations around the Civil Rights Act.

Bethel AME Church and Ardmore Victory Gardens, Community Gardening
Monday, January 15, 2024, 9am-4pm.
Join Bethel AME Church in Ardmore as we set up their community garden offsite at Haverford College. Great hands-on opportunity to support this important community garden!

Monday, January 15, 2024. 8:30am-2:30pm. The Kaiserman JCC is excited to be offering multiple programs throughout the day for all ages and interests. Join them for one or all!
Media Knitters, MLK Day of Service with Project Linus Project Linus
Monday, January 15, 2024 at 10:00 AM 1:00 PM Church of the Loving Shepherd
1066 S New St., West Chester, PA. Join the Media Knitters us in making no-sew fleece blankets for deserving children. Please bring a pair of sharp scissors. All other materials and refreshments provided.

The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, MLK Day of Service
January 15, 2024, 11am-1:30pm, The Schuylkill Center, 8480 Hagy’s Mill Road, Philadelphia, Come together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy at the Schuylkill Center. All members of the community are invited to work on service projects aimed at protecting the health of our forests as well as supporting the Center. There will be a wide range of service projects available so everyone can participate! Registration is required.

Upper Dublin Parks & Recreation, Park Clean-Up
Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. in a day of service with Upper Dublin Parks and Recreation. We’ll be picking up debris and trash that has blown into EB Wright Park, the North Hills Community Center, and the Sandy Run Greenway. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.

Whitemarsh Township, MLK Clothing Drive
January 10th – 18th. Cedar Grove Barn, 100 Cedar Grove Road, Conshohocken, PA
This community event is the perfect opportunity to purge the clothes, shoes, & other accessories that you no longer need, but still have some life left in them! Collecting usable & wearable men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, belts, handbags, hats, scarves, ties, gloves, and other similar items. Donations should be placed in standard 13-gallon kitchen trash bags, or any other drawstring garbage bags. No hangers, please! All proceeds from this event will support the Colonial Neighborhood Council and the 2024 Whitemarsh Township Day!
